New Era

Sol 366 Edition BETA

Welcome to the official System Reference Documents (SRD) for New Era: Sol 366 Edition.

Introduction

In the New Era, the human race is still rebuilding in the aftermath of a catastrophic world war 366 years prior. New metropolitan areas have been built around the world in the wake of the war to accomodate those displaced from the many old era cities left uninhabitable. Society has moved towards the polar regions of the planet including Antarctica, where the country of Ætheria leads the new world in revolutionary technology.

Over three centuries ago, the first settlers of Ætheria got more than they bargained for. As they began construction, surveyors discovered a vast, man-made underground ruin beneath a lake near the town of Avondale. As history was effectively rewritten overnight, scientists and historians began flocking to the young nation to examine the site in what was thought to be a city untouched by man. As the polar civilizations expanded, several more sites were discovered, and Ætheria's population exploded.

In the year N.E. 366, Ætheria and its neighboring countries are home to some of the most advanced technology of the New Era. Behind the scenes, the mysterious Torchlight Historical Society works closely with the Ætherian government to conduct research in the ancient ruins, which continue to be explored and new ones discovered. In reality, the Society works in secret to research a form of ancient magic that was left behind by these ancient civilizations. No one except their highest-ranking officials knows the extent to which their influence permeates the world of the New Era, though the Ætherian populace is highly suspicious of them and their operatives.

Game System

New Era: Sol 366 Edition is a low-fantasy, magic-focused, modern/futuristic tabletop roleplaying game based around the world of the New Era. Players become mages with a variety of skills, studying and practicing spells, enchantments, alchemy, and the complex metaphysical "code" that forms the building blocks of this ancient magic. Work with or against the Torchlight Society to uncover the mysteries of magic, the ancient ruins, and the lost civilization that left them behind.

At higher levels, player characters can begin to unlock the secrets of ancient magic enough to create their own spells and enchantments. Any magical item can be recreated, as long as one knows its constituent enchantments. The practice of Spellcraft allows advanced mages to invent entirely new spells with any effect the player desires, but the GM decides what it will cost to create and cast the spell.

New Era is powered by the mRPG 3.0 Core system. This document extends the mRPG rules with New Era's features including classes, spells, and advanced magic mechanics. It does not contain any adventure encounters or spoilers and is intended for both the GM and players.
